Royal Philips announced in the summer of last year that millions of CPAP machines and mechanical ventilators had hidden flaws. The company issued a recall because the machines could expel particles and gasses. The polyester-based polyurethane (PE-PUR) foam used to reduce the noise of the motor had been disintegrating and releasing toxic chemicals and debris into the air hoses.
